The Y.S. Award, hosted by the Y.S. Educational Foundation and co-organized by the Synnex Foundation and other partners, recently held its grand finals. More than 700 teams of university and high school students participated in the competition. After half a year of evaluation, winners in four major categories were officially announced. Aimed at encouraging university students to bridge the gap between theory and practice while fostering innovation and application, SYNNEX Group President Evans S. W. Tu attended the ceremony in person and presented the Industrial Design Award. The Gold Award was claimed by a team from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Fu Jen Catholic University for their project “Smart Traffic Mirror”, which earned them a prize of NT$200,000.

The Y.S. Educational Foundation was established in memory of Mr. Miao, Yu-Siou, founder of the MiTAC-Synnex Group, to promote the long-term advancement of science, technology, and the humanities. As part of its mission, the Foundation created the Y.S. Award to inspire students to develop digital innovation and application skills. For 22 consecutive years, the Y.S. Award has provided a platform for young talents to express their creativity and has played a key role in nurturing practical talent for Taiwan’s ICT and semiconductor industries.

This year, for the first time, the award introduced a dedicated AI Competition for high school and vocational school students, encouraging them to integrate digital creativity into their studies and daily life. The inaugural AI competition received 55 entries. Dr. Chi-Lung Lee, Dean of the AI Innovation Institute at Innovative Intelligent Group, who served as one of the judges, remarked that the entries covered a wide range of topics, including health and safety, education and learning, and environmental and social issues. These projects showcased the students' impressive innovation capabilities in AI and the limitless potential of AI applications in diverse real-world scenarios.

The MiTAC-Synnex Group has been established for more than 70 years, ventured into the technology sector with the founding of MiTAC Inc., which has marked 50 years since it began introducing Taiwan’s first Intel microprocessor. Over the past 70 years, MiTAC-Synnex Group has steadily expanded and branched out, evolving into a large-scale conglomerate with operations spanning computers, IT distribution, system integration, software development, petrochemicals, industrial gases and food industries. The Y.S. Award provides a platform for young students to explore their creativity and showcase their talents. It has received widespread recognition from sectors including information technology, industrial design and video art. Over the years, it has cultivated more than 30,000 emerging professionals across various industries, injecting new ideas into enterprises.
