The Board of Directors of SYNNEX Technology International Corp (TWSE:2347) approved the appointment of Kee Ong, the current general manager of Synnex Australia and New Zealand, as the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Evans Tu as the Group President. Kee Ong will be responsible for the Synnex Groups’ business management and product planning, and report to Group President Evans Tu.

 

Kee Ong was born in 1966, and studied Computer Science and Information Engineering at the Chiao Tung University in 1985. After graduating in 1989, he joined Mitac International Corporation as a software R&D engineer, then relocating to the United Kingdom in 1992 working as a product manager in Mitac Europe, focusing on the development of the European market. In 1998, he joined the newly established Synnex Australia as Head of Product Management.

 

In 2006, Kee Ong was promoted to general manager of Synnex Australia and New Zealand BU. He led the team in a rapid expansion of the product line, from PC component products to end-point devices, commercial value-added and cloud services solutions. During this time, he also actively cultivating distribution channels and developing new business models, especially the business model with large format retailers (NR), which has greatly expanded the market share of Synnex Australia. Where, in 2005, Synnex Australia’s annual revenue stood at 20% of comparable businesses in the industry, by 2011 its annual revenue had surpassed its competitors to become the leader in the Australian market. By 2013, Synnex Australia’s annual revenue had reached NT$46 billion, over three times its revenue in 2005. In 2022, the annual revenue of Synnex Australia exceeded NT$65 billion and is listed among the top 120 companies in Australia.

 

In addition to these outstanding results in Synnex Australia’s business development, Kee Ong, with the assistance of Synnex HQ, has been instrumental in the construction of two major automated logistics centres in Australia, being involved in decisions ranging from site selection, land purchase, planning, construction and implementation of Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS). Completion of the first and second phase of the Sydney logistics centre occurred in 2014 and 2023 respectively, operationalising these distribution centres greatly enhances the efficiency and competitiveness of the services Synnex Australia delivers to customers across the Eastern region. Planning and construction has also commenced for a new automated logistics centre in Melbourne, which will further boost the capacity, quality and efficiency of services provided in the Australian market following its completion.

 

Apart from his IT professional background, product management and business development, his experience managing teams across regions informs Kee Ong’s inclusive, cross-cultural management style, leading to better performance within teams and the business. In March 2018, Synnex Group appointed Kee Ong as the senior vice president of its HQ Planning & Management Division, participating in the research and development of group’s management mechanism and system in sales & marketing, supply chain logistics, finance and accounting, risk management and human resources, empower him with a more macroscopic transnational management vision, functional integration and forward-looking leadership.
